New York University is the largest private university in the United States with an enrollment of over 50,000 students, the vast majority of which are in Manhattan. The health needs of the students is the responsibility of the New York University Student Health Center (NYUSHC). The health center occupies over 50,000 sq ft on two floors and serves hundreds of patients a day. It is also a labyrinth of hallways, offices, medical suites, exam rooms, clinics, and dispensaries.
C&VE worked with the NYUSHC directors to improve identification and navigation within the existing facility. Large murals in the lobbies clearly indicate the health center’s presence. Translucent panels installed over entrance-way side lights take advantage of interior lighting to softly back light department identification signs. The entire system uses the health center’s and NYU’s branded color schemes.
